Shivaji University Case study

Shivaji University, a leading state university in Maharashtra established in 1962, partnered with Traitfit to develop a scientifically validated psychometric assessment framework to identify slow and advanced learners across its campus. The university needed a skill-focused, digitally delivered solution to accurately differentiate student potential while ensuring efficiency at scale. Traitfit designed a competency-based assessment aligned with international testing standards and enabled secure online testing with automated reporting.

About Shivaji University

Shivaji University established in 1962, is a state university located at Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. The university, with a campus spread over 853 acres, is named after Shivaji, founder of the Maratha Empire. It was inaugurated on 18 November 1962 by Sarvepalli
Radhakrishnan, the then president of India.

The Challenge

Shivaji University is one of the top state-run universities in Maharashtra. They wanted to develop a psychometric assessment for identifying the slow learners and advanced learners in the university and devise a counseling and intervention program for them. They needed to work with an online assessment system in order to identify these skill sets to train them.

The Solution

Traitfit supported SU by first developing a robust competency matrix through literature review, item writing, sampling, and statistical validation aligned with ITC and APA guidelines. Ten key psychological competencies were identified, and a reliable, valid assessment was created. SU then implemented Traitfit’s online assessments to save time, reduce logistics, and digitally document candidate skills, followed by counselling and training sessions. Using customised and pre-built question banks covering reasoning, thinking styles, leadership, confidence, and motivation, SU conducted over 5,000 assessments in a single week. Secure web proctoring, 24×7 support, automated reporting, and the Power/Network Resume feature ensured smooth, scalable execution even with infrastructure challenges. As a result, SU saved thousands of man-hours, improved campus branding and candidate experience, reduced interview costs, and accelerated time-to-offer by filtering higher-quality candidates early.

The Result

SU successfully conducted assessments for over 5,000 students and saved thousands of man-hours through automated reports, ready-to-use question banks, and remote proctoring. The process enhanced campus branding by offering a smoother candidate experience, reduced interview costs by filtering higher-quality candidates early, and improved the time-to-offer by nearly 10% thanks to hands-on assessments that shortlisted only the most relevant candidates for interviews.
